DEEWR brings together the core elements of the Australian Government’s productivity and participation agenda from early childhood, through schools, trade training, wider vocational education, universities and employment participation.
For more information about the department, go to About DEEWR
on the internet.
To be eligible for the DEEWR Graduate Program, applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia who are applying for citizenship.
Disclaimer: The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations retains the right to accept or reject applications from non-Australian Citizens/permanent residents on a case-by-case basis.
Applicants with qualifications in arts are eligible to apply for the General stream.
The department recruits graduates in the following streams (disciplines in brackets):
- accounting (including finance, commerce and business)
- economics (economics, econometrics and statistics)
- information technology
- law
- social policy analysts (social science, public policy, statistics, evaluation)
- general (all disciplines).
The variety of work in DEEWR is enormous and most graduates will undertake placements in three different areas of the department, so they will have the opportunity to experience and enjoy areas of work they might not have otherwise considered.
The majority of graduate positions are in National Office (Canberra), however some positions will be offered in our state offices. To be eligible for the Graduate Program, graduates must be willing to relocate to Canberra or the relevant state office (normally the capital city in that state or territory).
Applicants must have completed, or be due to complete, their undergraduate qualification by the commencement of the program. Applicants do not require an HD average. While academic ability is considered, selection is based on a range of factors throughout the recruitment process (including application, responses to selection criteria, work sample assessment, psychometric testing and interview).
For graduates in the general stream, we are looking for teamwork, motivation, problem-solving ability and flexibility or adaptability. For the specialist streams (accounting, economics, IT, legal and social policy analysts), we are looking for teamwork, motivation, problem-solving ability and some technical skills.
