I didn’t want to be an accountant in a bank somewhere, huddled up in my little office. I always wanted to be in the public service because I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives.
All three of my rotations were really good and my supervisors were very supportive of me. If I was enthusiastic about doing something they encouraged it. That was the best part about the Graduate Program.
I worked with my current supervisor last year and it's great working with her. She’s always been there for me.
The public service has so many opportunities and they’re not just related to accounting or the specific field you’re in. You can go out and do so many different things. For instance, my third placement was in contract management in Brisbane. It wasn’t related to accounting, but gave me the opportunity to work with employment providers and came into contact with job seekers. So I saw the people we were helping.
It’s fantastic. If you want to make a difference to people’s lives, it’s a great career. It gives you so many opportunities to visit different parts of Australia and to come into contact with everyday Australians.
