IT Financial Management.
I went to Cairns for my third placement which was just the most amazing experience. As part of the work I was doing with contract management, we visited a crocodile farm and went into a crocodile pen at feeding time. I’ll never forget that. I think everybody should have state office experience because it’s so different. You see the policy prepared in Canberra being implemented on the ground.
That was amazing! I liked the social aspect, and the events that were organised. We did all these things I had never dreamed of doing—like going to the snowfields. I’m still friends with the people I met in the first week. When you all move away from home, they become your family and are there if you’ve had a bad day.
Knowing my job is making a difference and helping Indigenous people get employment. It was really rewarding seeing that and knowing people you’d seen and met had found jobs.
One of the advantages is getting to experience three different rotations. I also learnt a lot that uni didn’t teach me.
