When you apply for the DEEWR Graduate Program you should always address the selection criteria in full. Please note that you will only be considered for the next step of the selection process if you meet the selection criteria. There are different selection criteria for each stream.
The key to addressing the selection criteria is to demonstrate your capability by providing evidence of how you meet each criterion, using specific examples drawn from your experience. You need to convince the selection team that you have the capabilities to do the job—capabilities which are reflected in the selection criteria.
One model for doing this is the STAR model, which is:
Situation – provide a very brief outline of the situation or setting
Task – outline what you did
Action – outline how you did it
Result – describe the outcomes.
Before submitting your application, make sure you have:
- addressed all aspects of each criterion
- used positive and specific language (i.e. avoid ambiguous expressions such as ‘I was involved in…’)
- used strong action words (i.e. doing)
- used correct spelling and grammar.
If you have any individual requirements that need to be accommodated at any stage throughout the recruitment process, please email graduates@deewr.gov.au to make appropriate arrangements.
If you are successful in gaining a graduate position with DEEWR you will be:
- required to supply proof of Australian citizenship if you were born outside Australia. If you are not an Australian citizen, proof of your permanent residency and eligibility to apply for citizenship will be required.
- required to supply proof that you hold a tertiary qualification from an Australian tertiary institution or a tertiary qualification from outside Australia that has been recognised by the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR)
.
