The department’s Strategic Analysis and Evaluation Group (SAEG) is responsible for whole-of-portfolio and cross-sectional policy formation, strategic analysis and research and supports policy and program development in the department.
We are looking for graduates with strong oral and written communication skills, research skills and sound quantitative, analytical ability who enjoy discussing policy-related issues.
To be eligible, applicants must have completed, or be due to complete, a three-year undergraduate degree in social sciences, public policy, statistics or evaluation, from an Australian university (or equivalent) by the end of the 2008 academic year.
As a social policy analyst, you will be given the opportunity to conduct specialist research and analysis in whole-of-government matters including national and international comparisons, productivity, skills formation, workforce shortage, student participation, transition from education to work and income support programs for students.
Graduates will gain an overall view of priority issues affecting the department, and will develop their communication and analytical skills so they can make a significant contribution in policy and research areas of the department and elsewhere.
Recent achievements include developing the department’s capability in the following areas:
- income support for students
- pre-school education
- national quality systems
- relationships with international organisations
- economic returns to education
- analysis of regional and Indigenous issues
- evaluation of departmental programs.
